8 Year-old Magnus LaDue took the Calculus BC Advanced Placement Exam offered by the College Entrance Examination Board on May 7, 2008. He is the youngest student ever to have taken an Advanced Placement Exam, since these exams normally are taken by the nation's brightest high school juniors and seniors.
On July 14 we learned that he made the highest possible score of 5, a brilliant and stunning intellectual achievement for an 8 year-old. This means that he is "Extremely Well Qualified" in Calculus, and almost every college in the United States will award him two semesters of credit for it.
As a home-schooled third grader, Magnus has completed three semesters of Calculus. He is currently studying Differential Equations and Linear Algebra, and he is learning Mathematica 6.
Magnus has also studied music theory at the college level for over 3 years. He has completed Tonal Harmony and Counterpoint, and he is currently studying Harmony and Voice Leading.
An accomplished pianist, Magnus is a student of Dr. Carol Leone, Chair of the Keyboard Department in the Meadows School of the Arts at Southern Methodist University.
On July 24 Magnus was feattured on the KTXA 21 News, First in Prime program. The music and the interview were recorded at Steinway Hall in Fort Worth, Texas. (We would like to offer our special thanks to Michael Inman of Steinway and Sons for making a fabulous piano available on such short notice.)
In addition to his musical and academic interests, Magnus enjoys bicycling 40 to 50 miles each week on trails in the greater DFW area. He also enjoys playing with his two cats, Harmonia and Garfield.

This CBS report was in March 1975. Edward J.Daly,owner of World Airways, sent a Boeing 727 aircraft to Da Nang Vietnam to pick up stranded woman and children. Instead the aircraft was swamped by military personnel climbing on the aircraft. There were 260 people aboard a plane which is designed to carry 105. The plane was overloaded by 20,000 pounds. The baggage compartments were loaded with people. Some of the problems during the flight included, the rear stairway remained partially extended for the entire flight, the main wheels would not retract, a hand grenade damage to one of the wings causing fuel loss, and the lower cargo doors were open. The plane had to fly at 10,000 feet because of lack of pressurization thus fuel consumption was three times greater than normal. A flight on a "wing and a prayer".
