Disclaimer: I don't own this video at all Ripped from the DVD of Kung Fu Hustle Kung Fu Hustle is a humorous parody and a special tribute to the wuxia genre, played and directed by Stephen Chow. The Harpists are a pair of hitmen dressed in long grey robes, sunglasses and broad rimmed hats; who where hired by the Axe Gang to rid of Coolie, Donut, and Tailor. They are highly knowledgable about their opponents and knew who they were and their fighting styles before the Axe gang hired them, though they where quite suprised to find the Lions Roar actually existed. Their weapon of choice is an (immensely over-sized) Guqin-Guzheng hybrid. Although capable of melee combat, they much prefer to use their special fighting style, Deadly Melody. They can use their qi to focus and mold the sound waves produced by the instrument into a range of deadly forms, ranging from scimitars, to fists and even a small legion of sword-wielding undead in ancient Chinese armor. The ability is not purely offensive; it can be used to form a protective "wall" that actively blocks and forcibly repels incoming weapons. With practically every string they play from their musical instrument, killer objects, usually almost invisible, would fly from it, aiming for the unfortunate target. The first harpist appears to be the older of the two. He fights Tailor in his shop and proves to be capable of matching him in hand to hand combat (though he did have the element of suprise on his side). He primarily uses his long fingernails as claws when fighting, and is capable to cutting through plaster with relitive ease. He uses the Guqin as a back up, though allows his partner to do most of the firing. Despite his hand to hand combat skill he proves to be no match for the landlord. The second harpist appears younger and appears to be blind, since in an earlier scene the first harpist had to assist him to his drink and frequently cocks his head to focus on particular sounds. Despite this handicap, he seems to have excellent accuracy and skill with the Guqin at long range, and was able to tell where his opponents where even after dodging. His main offense is the Guqin which he plays a deadly melody; his secondary defense is punching. They are defeated by Landlord, who was between them; their attacks merely were deflected by him and onto each other. Then they are decimated by the Landlady with her Lion's Roar. The landlord speculated they wouldnt hear from them again. Deadly Melody is borrowed from Liu zhi qin mo 《六指琴魔》(1960's). The evil musicians are reminiscent of The Blues Brothers. In one scene, they respond to a question "Strictly speaking we're just musicians", exactly as the Blues Brothers did in their 1980 movie. [Mas+detalle]

One of my favorite songs in GH3. And a perfect one to play on the drums. Gotta love those triplets. I actually get a little too excited and play really loudly on the pads there. Especially after the solo sections when I'm fired up. It causes me to be a little less accurate, but oh well, it's fun. I've added an extra drum pad for this song. The last 14 notes of the song pwn and I couldn't bare to not play them fully. I am not fast enough to play the 3-note chords with two hands (one hand for one note, the other hand for a dual-note pad, then do that in triplets) so I've mapped the entire GYB chord tho this pad, just for the final notes of the Outro... It's a homemade drum trigger made out of wood (for the frame), padded carpet (for a little bounce), and a piezo electric buzzer (from Radio Shack), then a 1/4" jack out to the drumKat where it sees it as a trigger in. When you tap on piezo buzzers, they generate varying voltage and this is a cheap way to get a REALLY good trigger. Very dynamic and responsive. I made it years ago, putting it to use now. I could practice this some more and try to get the 500k achievement, but I want to move on to TTFAF next so maybe I can pick it up there. FAQ: ---- Q: How does it work? A: Everything is explained in detail here: http://egyokeo.com/midihero Q: How do you do 3-note chords? A: All "two adjacent note" power chords are mapped to the top 4 pads, so with two hands I can play any 3-note chord except GYO. Q: How do you do whammy and star power? A: I use a bass drum pedal on my right foot to activate star power, and a hi-hat pedal on my left foot to control whammy depth. Q: Why do the notes "hit" so late? A: I use a 145ms setting for the in-game HTDV Lag Calibration feature to counter the "controller lag" I have with my setup. I use it to make the sweet spot of the notes match the sound of the music, not when the notes cross the row of circles. That way, I play what I hear, but I have to read ahead for the notes to play. Q: Are you using the "easy expert" cheat? A: Nope. Listen to the "tap" sounds the drums make. They match in-time to the music and the visible rhythm of the notes on-screen. There's no need for a bigger "window" around each note in order to hit them. The lag setting is what makes it look like I'm hitting things late. Q: How much does this cost? A: The drumKat is a pro-quality MIDI drum pad set. These days, they run about $1k. I also use a PC to run my custom home-brew MIDI Hero software to interpret the drum events. Then the "XIM" and "XFPS" add another $100+. This is not made for the masses. This is a one-of-a-kind setup. Q: Do you play real drums? Are you in a band? A: Yes, I've been playing drums since 1986. I have been in various bands from Jazz to Ska over the years. I'm not so interested in it anymore. Guitar Hero uses just the right brain cells that make playing an instrument fun.
