Richard C. Hoagland is a former space science museum curator; a former NASA consultant, and during the historic Apollo Missions to the Moon, was science advisor to Walter Cronkite and CBS News. For over 20 years, Hoagland has been leading an outside scientific team in a critically acclaimed independent analysis of possible intelligently-designed artifacts on Mars. Richard and his team's investigations have been quietly extended to include over 30 years of previously hidden data from NASA, Soviet, and Pentagon missions to the Moon. Hoagland reported on the nearly 700 boxes of missing Apollo 11 data and videotapes. "Someone has stolen our heritage," he declared. These recordings were made using slow scan TV (SSTV) and were of higher quality than what was seen on network broadcasts of the moon landing. Hoagland pointed towards lunar images he's labeled as 'The Tower' and 'The Shard,' as the reason why these boxes may have disappeared. 'The Tower,' described as a glass ruin 10-15 miles high, is an artifact of an ancient civilization that was once on the moon, he believes. Steve Troy has studied blow-ups of NASA's lunar negatives and come to the same conclusions, said Hoagland. The two of them will be presenting new evidence at the Joshua Tree Retreat in October. In March 2007 at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London we hosted an evening of animation related events which I took as an opportunity to make some more examples of my Phonographantasmascope, an extension of the Zoetrope principle. It is all live action and works by using the shutter speed of the camera rather than the rather irritating stroboscope methods other 3D Zoetropes use. Please excuse my waffling over the top of it, I was speaking for four hours to a constantly revolving set of people. MUSIC - ELLIOT SMITH - IN THE LOST AND FOUND [Mas+detalle]

Hoagland of Enterprise Mission shared his analysis of the strange hexagon (photos & video) observed on Saturn by the Cassini probe. The hexagon is made of ammonia clouds (stretching 25,000 kilometers across) that race around as though they were on a huge hexagonal racetrack, he detailed. The structure is an example of "hyperdimensional physics," and there is a similar formation around the North Pole of Jupiter, he added. http://www.coasttocoastam.com http://www.enterprisemission.com/ [Mas+detalle]

[Recorded Sept 21, 2006] The life and machines of Seymour Cray are explored at the Computer History Museum in a panel lecture celebrating the Cray-1's 30th anniversary. Panelists include: Bill Buzbee (Los Alamos, NCAR), Bo Ewald (Los Alamos, Cray) and Jack Worlton (Los Alamos). Burton Smith (Tera, Cray) will be the evening's panel moderator. In 1976, Cray Research, Inc. delivered its first supercomputer to the Los Alamos National Laboratory, birthplace of the atomic bomb. The Cray-1, as it was known, was the fastest computer in the world and was a blend of Cray's unique engineering style and an urgency for high performance computing borne of cold war competition between the United States and the Soviet Union. For the next 30 years, Cray defined the limits of the possible for supercomputers by building the fastest machines in the world. In spite of the enormous influence on science and engineering of his machines, Seymour Cray himself worked in small groups in rural America and shunned publicity. How could this one man and his hand-picked team of people build the fastest computers in the world? What does the Cray-1 tell us about the engineering, social and economic factors that coalesce into creating a stable technological artifact? Why did much larger computer companies abandon the field of supercomputing to this small but powerful foe? What, exactly, were these incredible machines used for? These topics and more are discussed.
