The expedition has been operational since 1966 as part of the team investigating Cape Kalliakra and territories within the present-day administrative region of Dobrich. In the period of 1966 -- 1969, the excavations had been carried out under Georgi Dzhingov, senior associate with the Archeological Museum, Sofia under Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS), and Lyubka Bobcheva, Ph.D., then director of the District History Museum of Tolboukhin (present-day Dobrich). The excavations at Gradnitsa, Sevlievo Area, had been carried out under Prof. Athanas Milchev, then head of the Archeology Dept. of Sofia University. Since 1971, investigations have been under Dr. Georgi Kitov (being in charge of the overall process) and his assistants locally: Pavel Pavlov (Lovech History Museum) in Lovech Region, Totyo Totevski (Troyan Museum of Handicrafts) in Lomets and Dulbok Dol in 1979, Tanya Borisova (Pravets History Museum) in Pravets Area, Boris Marichkov (Plovdiv Archeological Museum) in Brani Pole, Georgi Atanassov (Shoumen History Museum) in Novi Pazar Area, Marlena Krusteva and Peter Theodosiev (Archeological Museum, Sofia under BAS) at some of the archeological sites in Lovech and Kazanluk regions, Marlena Krusteva in Gulubovo Area, Gavrail Lazov and Elka Docheva (National History Museum, Sofia) in Kazanluk and Svilengrad areas (1996 and 1997), Diana Dimitrova (Archeological Museum, Sofia under BAS) in the Thracian Cult Complex near Starossel and in the Valley of the Thracian Rulers (after 2000).
Most of the TEMP findings are of extremely high scientific and artistic value. Their numerousness is due to the outstanding speed and efficiency of TEMP's work and the implementation of geophysical and excavation techniques and apparatuses, as well as a numerous and highly-qualified team of experts: archeologists, geophysicists, artists, restorers, etc. There have been introduced extended work hours both on the site(s) and in the very base, combined with non-stop, large-scale work. The most remarkable achievements in terms of age, region, and type of site can be highlighted as follows:
Early Bronze Age. Goran-Slatina Necropolis in Lovech Region. The largest and richest (so far) in Bulgaria (1980 -- 1981).
Middle Bronze Age. The only grave from that time found on the territory of Bulgaria is in Lovech downtown area (1972).
Early Iron Age. Tumuli on the land of the village of Goumoshtnik, Troyan Area (1975).
Late Iron Age. Architectural monuments of the sub-tumular type:
- Two domed tombs at Cape Kalliakra (1966 -- 1968), and one at Cape Chirakman, near Kavarna (1978).
- Stone tombs near the villages of: Goumoshtnik, Troyan Area (1974); Cherni Vit, Teteven Area (1975); Dermantsi, Loukovit Area (1992); Shipka (1992); Gabarevo, Pavel Banya Area (1997); two near Muglizh (2004); etc.
- Monumental mausoleum-temples. Two in Zhaba Tumulus near Strelcha (1976 -- 1977); two in Ravnogor, Bratsigovo Area in the Rhodope Mts. (1987); 11 in the Valley of the Thracian Rulers -- in the tumuli: Ostrousha (1993), Slavchova, Sashova, Golyama (Greater) Arsenalka and Sarafova (1995), Helvetia, Griffins' and Shoushmanets (1996), Kesteleva and Racheva near Muglizh (2004), Popova near the village of Oryakhovitsa, Stara Zagora Region (2004), Golyama (Greater) Kosmatka near Shipka; 5 in the vicinity of the Thracian Cult Complex at Starossel -- in the tumuli: Roshava (1992), Chetinyova (2000), Horizont, Nedkova, and Koilishka (2002); Roshavata Chouka at Alexandrovo, Haskovo Region (2000).
- Rich sepulchral finds in tumuli: # 6, # 16, and # 25 near Toros, Loukovit Area (1972 -- 1974); Chervenakovets and Orela near Strelcha (1977); # 2 near Ravnogor in the Rhodopes (1987); Deykova near Dermantsi, Loukovit Area (1992); Malkata (The Lesser) and Binyova near Shipka (1992); Ostrousha near Shpka (1993); Zareva, Docheva, VIFOR, FOMUS, Tsvyatkova near Shipka (1996); Peychova, Mavrova and Panchova near Starossel, Hissar Area (2000); # 52 south of the village of Panicheri, Hissar Area (2002); Svetitsa and Golyama Kosmatka near Shipka (2004); etc.
Roman Period. Rich graves in tumuli: # 1 near the village of Smochan, Lovech Region (1975); village of Presyaka, Lovech Region (1979); village of Slatina, Lovech Region (1982 -- 1983); village of Doyrentsi, Lovech Region (1984); village of Izboul, Novi Pazar Area (1989 -- 1990); village of Glavan, Gulubovo Area (1991 -- 1993); village of Pamoukchii, Novi Pazar Area (1991); village of Mudrets, Gulubovo Area (1991 -- 1993); village of Levka, Svilengrad Area (1994); village of Raykova Mogila, Svilengrad Area (1994); town of Muglizh in the Valley of the Thracian Rulers (1997); etc.
