More glamorous happenings in Berkeley Square. After the civilised bit of the evening -- the sit down dinner where Jonathan Ross presented the trophies to the winners in his usual dangerously witty style - came the real fun -- the after party. Anya Hindmarch saucily commented of her Accessory Designer of the Year trophy, "with an award like that, who needs a man!" Sienna Miller apologised for not saying anything funny in her acceptance speech when she won Best Film Actress, because she'd taken had enjoyed the refreshments so much. [Mas+detalle]

153 yrs of women's fashion in 8 mins . Up to 1893 it's sound stuff (the original source for pre-1893 seems to have shown the spring fashion followed by the autumn one but I'm afraid I haven't reflected this in the order they appear in the frame for each year, not having noticed until it was too late, while pics chosen to fill gaps in the original for 1801, 1878, 1879 and 1886 were picked for that year from the web, at random) - after 1893 seasons are ignored and it's the work of someone who's quite fussy about dating but couldn't tell a twill from a taffeta. Acknowledgement of all image sources given in the end credits (except for half a dozen or so mislaid ones) - both thanks and apologies to all website owners concerned. [Mas+detalle]

Steve Watson Infowars.net Wednesday, Nov 26, 2008 Wisconsin Police were caught on camera tasing a 54 year old woman and confining her to a wheel chair after she sat in the wrong seat at a football game in Madison. Margaret Hiebing, a veteran Badger season ticket holder, was ejected from the Camp Randall stadium during the Oct. 11 game against Penn State after she was found sitting in the wrong seat, reports WKOW 27 News. Hiebing had taken a different seat because someone else had occupied her usual place at the packed game. When police approached Mrs Hiebing she explained the situation and refused to leave. Onlookers began to berate the cops after one of them reportedly threatened Hiebing with pepper spray. One witness filmed the altercation on a cell phone, evidence which would later dispel initial police claims that Hiebing was causing an obstruction by sitting in the aisle. Police then forced Hiebing face down on the ground and tased her on the back of the leg. Hiebing was then placed in a wheel chair and ejected as she was unable to walk out of the stadium. Former Wisconsin Department of Justice Training and Standards Director Dennis Hanson described the tasing as " the next step to force compliance" and told 27 News the use of a taser is an accepted intermediate option when the subject of police commands is not cooperating. This is simply not true. The weapon is designed to be used as a last resort before lethal force when a suspect becomes violent and the officer feels their own safety is under threat. The police are now trained that "pain compliance," a euphemism for torture, is acceptable in apprehending anyone even if that person poses no physical danger. This case once again highlights the fact that police are using the Taser to get non-violent suspects to simply do what they are told, rather than for their intended purpose as the very last line of defense before the handgun. Taser has been the subject of much controversy and outrage all over the world. Last year the UN's Committee Against Torture issued a statement on the TaserX26, which read: "The use of TaserX26 weapons, provoking extreme pain, constituted a form of torture, and that in certain cases it could also cause death, as shown by several reliable studies and by certain cases that had happened after practical use." Doctors in the U.S. and Canada have spoken out against the devices and have accused Taser International of corporate intimidation. Meanwhile, the UK government wants to arm London police with 10,000 tasers, a plan that police have said they will boycott because of the potential the devices have to cause fear and damage public confidence. WKOW 27 news reports that over two dozen witnesses have signed a petition stating that the police conduct in Margaret Hiebing's case was not appropriate. While stadium video of the altercation also exists, police are keeping it under wraps and have said the incident is still under review. http://www.infowars.com [Mas+detalle]

Willing Executioners: America's Bipartisan Atrocity Deepens in Somalia by Chris Floyd Wednesday, 7 May 2008 Until we have a politics that considers the fate of all people to be just as important as the fate of "Americans", there will be no end to this cycle of atrocity and terror, no end to ruin and revenge, no real change, no matter who is elected.Do you want to know what the entire American political establishment -- Democrat and Republican, conservative and "progressive" -- really stands for? Do you want to know what they all support, whole-heartedly, without the slightest objection or demur? Do you want to see their true vision for the world, behind all the pious rhetoric and poisonous lies? Then look no further; here it is, in the raw: A leading human rights group on Tuesday accused Ethiopian troops in Somalia of killing civilians and committing atrocities, including slitting people's throats, gouging out eyes and gang-raping women. (AP) "The people of Somalia are being killed, raped, tortured; looting is widespread and entire neighbourhoods are being destroyed," said Michelle Kagari, Africa Programme Deputy Director at Amnesty International, speaking from Nairobi. Witnesses described to Amnesty International an increasing incidence of Ethiopian troops killing by what is locally termed "slaughtering" or "killing like goats" -- referring to killing by slitting the throat. The victims of these killings are often left lying in pools of blood in the streets until armed fighters, including snipers, move out of the area and relatives can collect their bodies. In one case, a 15-year-old girl found her father with his throat cut upon returning home from school, after Ethiopian security forces swept through her neighbourhood. Other cases in the report include: Haboon, a 56-year-old woman from Mogadishu, who said her neighbour's 17-year-old daughter was raped by Ethiopian troops. When her 13 and 14-year-old sons tried to defend their sister, the soldiers beat them and took their eyes out with a bayonet. The mother fled. It is not known what happened to the boys. This girl is in a coma as a result of the injuries she sustained during the attack. Guled, aged 32, who said that he saw his neighbours "slaughtered". He said he saw many men whose throats were slit and whose bodies were left in the street. Some had their testicles cut off. He also saw women being raped. In one incident, his newly-wed neighbour whose husband was not home was raped by over twenty Ethiopian soldiers. (Garowe Online) Ceebla'a, aged 63, from Wardhiigley, said she fled Mogadishu on 15 November 2007 with her young children after some shooting in the area. One day she saw three men leaving their shops being picked up by Ethiopian soldiers for investigation. The next morning she saw the bodies of the three men on the street. One was strangled with electrical wire. The second had his throat cut. The third had been chained ankle to wrist, and his testicles had been smashed. (Amnesty report) These Ethiopian troops were armed, trained and funded by the Bush Administration, then sent into Somalia as a proxy army for yet another Terror War "regime change" operation in late 2006. American military forces have been directly involved in the operation, on the side of the invaders, throughout the conflict, from the very beginning to this day -- as evidenced by the U.S. missile attack last week that killed at least two dozen civilians in the course of an "extrajudicial" assassination of a Somali insurgent leader. American forces have bombed fleeing refugees, slaughtered innocent herdsmen and destroyed villages in attempts to assassinate a handful of individual alleged, on shaky and specious evidence, to be "part of" or "associated with" or "linked to" al Qaeda. American agents have seized refugees from the Somali war, including U.S. citizens, and had them "renditioned" to the notorious prisons of the Ethiopian dictatorship. And as we have noted here many times, the Bush Administration has sent in death squads to "kill anyone left alive" after American strikes. [Mas+detalle]

ERITREA- With the support and advice of the N.U.E.W (National Union Of Eritrean Women) Yonatan Kelib spent seven months in Eritrea filming his first self-financed independent documentary. His documentary deals with the role Eritrean women played in the 30 year independence struggle against Ethiopia and its impact today on society. He wanted to know the personal stories of these Tegadelti [freedom fighters in Tigrinya], and what lead them to join the armed struggle, how their experiences in Meda [battle fields] helped form their perception of women's rights issues and what type of future they believe awaits the next generation of Eritrean women. During the 30 year independence struggle, Eritrean women played a very important and significant role in helping secure this independence so this documentary allows these brave women [and men] tell their own stories in their own words. He is still editing this film but since he is a bussy man in grad school at NYU, it's really hard for him currentyly to find time to complete this historic project, but he plans to complete this documentary in the near future because the sacrifices commited by the Women of Eritrea, for over three decades, has to documented for the World to see.
