Satellite images suggest that part of the ice shelf is disintegrating, and will soon crumble away.
The Wilkins Ice Shelf has been stable for most of the last century, but began retreating in the 1990s.

Satellite imagery from the National Snow and Ice Data Center at the University of Colorado at Boulder reveals that a 13,680 square kilometer (5,282 square mile) ice shelf has begun to collapse because of rapid climate change in a fast-warming region of Antarctica.
British Antarctic Survey has captured dramatic satellite and video images of an Antarctic ice shelf that looks set to be the latest to break out from the Antarctic Peninsula. A large part of the Wilkins Ice Shelf on the Antarctic Peninsula is now supported only by a thin strip of ice hanging between two islands. It is another identifiable impact of climate change on the Antarctic environment.
Scientists monitoring satellite images of the Wilkins Ice Shelf spotted that a huge (41 by 2.5 km) km2 berg the size of the Isle of Man appears to have broken away in recent days -- it is still on the move.
Glaciologist Ted Scambos from the University of Colorado alerted colleagues Professor David Vaughan and Andrew Fleming of the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) that the ice shelf looked at risk. After checking daily satellite pictures, BAS sent a Twin Otter aircraft on a reconnaissance mission to check out the extent of the breakout.
Jim Elliott was onboard the BAS Twin Otter to capture video of the breakout for Vaughan and colleagues. He says,
"I've never seen anything like this before -- it was awesome. We flew along the main crack and observed the sheer scale of movement from the breakage. Big hefty chunks of ice, the size of small houses, look as though they've been thrown around like rubble -- it's like an explosion."

North Carolina) is an American professional basketball player currently with the Seattle SuperSonics of the National Basketball Association. He attended Dr. Phillips High School in Orlando, Florida and the University of Georgia. He is the son of former 13-year NBA veteran Gerald Wilkins and nephew of nine-time NBA All-star Dominique Wilkins. If there was NBA royalty, Sonics swingman Damien Wilkins would come from a noble line. Wilkins' father, Gerald, played 14 years in the NBA with five teams and was a long-time starter. His uncle, Dominique (a.k.a. the Human Highlight Film), was a nine-time All-Star and is the Atlanta Hawks all-time leading scorer. After a quick start to his NCAA career at North Carolina State, Damien entered the 2001 NBA Draft but decided to withdraw and transfer to Georgia. There, he had two solid but unspectacular seasons and went undrafted in 2004. A renewed diligence in the weight room helped Wilkins have a big summer league and shine in preseason action for the Sonics, allowing him to make the team. After biding his time and working after practice, Wilkins got his shot in late March of his rookie season and came through, scoring a career-high 21 points, including the game-winning basket, at Portland on March 24. Wilkins would start seven games the rest of the way as the Sonics battled injuries. He proved himself in the playoffs when injuries struck again, finishing with 15 points, six rebounds and five steals in the Sonics Game 4 win over San Antonio. A restricted free agent in the summer of 2005, Wilkins received an offer from the Minnesota Timberwolves that the Sonics chose to match. In the 2007 season, the departure of Rashard Lewis and Ray Allen gave way to start Damien Wilkins. On November 16, 2007 he scored a career high 41 point and grabbed 9 rebounds in a game against the Atlanta Hawks.

MJ ended 1987 scoring 53, 50 and 61 in consecutive games. This is the 61 he had against Dominique to end the season with 3,041 total pts - the only player to break 3,000 in a season other than Wilt. MJ also became the only player other than Wilt to score 50+ in three straight games (KB joined the club in 2007).
Ten years later in 1997, MJ went 18-26 to get 47 against a different Atlanta team headed by Mutombo and Smith. That masterpiece has rarely been seen but it is included here.
