The Big Brother State is an educational film about what politicians claim to be protection of our freedom but what we refer to as repressive legislation.
Since terrorism has become a global threat, especially after 9/11, governments all over the world have started enforcing laws which, so
the governments say, should increase national security.
These laws obviously aim at another goal: the states gaining more and more control of their citizens at the cost of our privacy and freedom.

The New Mexico-born, New York-based Raul Midón makes his recording debut with State of Mind, on Manhattan Records. The 13 song collection of Midón originals is a mix of soul, R&B, pop, folk, jazz and Latin. Midón, who has been blind since birth and is the son of an African American mother and an Argentinean father, lists such musical influences as Stevie Wonder, Richie Havens,and Jose Feliciano.

ABSTRACT
A few years ago, development of the X Window System was
revitalized by a change in management and the rise of a
new generation of machines and operating systems. This
talk is a tour of X, with emphasis on the things that are
new and the things that are to come: advances in 2D
rendering, use of 3D hardware, high-quality typography,
revamped input support, client-side migration of
responsibilities, and new support for the critical layers
of software between the server and the toolkit. It's the
seventh Year of the Linux Desktop, and the future has
never looked shinier.

Keith Packard was employee number three at the MIT X
Consortium, and has written a substantial portion of the
open-source X Window System server. He currently works
for Intel, and is a founding Board Member of the X.Org
Foundation.
Speaker: Barton C Massey, Portland State University
Bart Massey is an Associate Professor of Computer Science
at Portland State University, and Secretary of the X.Org
Foundation. His current research interests are in
development and deployment of open hardware and software
technologies.

Zimbabwe, once one of the most prosperous nations in Africa, now has the lowest life expectancy and highest inflation rate in the world. Life has become an everyday struggle for survival.
The supermarkets in Bulawayo are all empty. According to the shopkeeper, the last time they had bread was "a month ago". Filming secretly undercover, journalist Ginny Stein captures the desperation everywhere. "There is no water. Nothing, just nothing", laments 'Tony'. "Children are hungry, everyone is hungry. Our government is a monster". Even if there were things in the shops, most people couldn't afford them. A teacher's monthly salary now buys the equivalent of one MacDonald's family meal. Malnutrition is taking its toll on people's health. "Up to 75% of the people coming in have diarrhea and vomiting", states Dr Thandazani. The fear is that these problems will only get worse. In July, the government forced businesses to half their prices. Now it's proposing to nationalize 51% of all white-owned businesses. "The economy must be in the hands of Zimbabweans", states Ambassador Khaya Moyo. But unsurprisingly, manufacturers and retailers feel they're being made new enemies of the state.
